Directors Message

Dear Spark Parents and Athletes,

I want to thank the people who reached out and prayed for me during my long battle with COVID.  It’s been a long journey.  A total of 36 days in the hospital and a rehab facility.  Happy to be home but, my recovery will take some time.

I recently found out that club tryouts are being held the weekend of August 29 & 30.  I personally thought that tryouts would be after November because high volleyball is scheduled to start in November.  So, I am surprised that it is being done this early.  The preliminary season schedule put out by the NCVA still starts in January 2021.  Most practice facilities are not available due to COVID.  High school gyms are still not open.  The only clubs that can practice are the ones with their own facilities.

Having gone through with what I went through I have decided that Spark Volleyball Club will not be part of the 20/21 volleyball season.  This decision does not come easy, but I cannot bare to think that a player, parent or coach can contract this virus and get sick the way I did.  The risk is not worth it to me.

This pandemic is far from being eradicated and they predict that a second wave is coming this Fall which is just around the corner.  There is no telling what will happen if there will be renewed shutdowns, back to staying at home, long lines at the stores, and the season being cancelled.  No vaccine is close to being approved and even when one does, it will be some time before it reaches most people.

Spark is NOT going away.  We will wait for next season when hopefully things can return back to some type of normalcy.
Thank you all for your support.  I want to wish you all good luck in whatever decision you make.  Just please be safe and take care of yourselves.
